President Donald Trump claimed he “runs the country and the world” during an interview with The Atlantic last week.
Trump agreed to the interview “out of curiosity” and “as a competition with myself,” he said on Truth Social. The interview came after controversy surrounding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, whose leaked Signal messages reportedly included sensitive military plans sent to The Atlantic‘s editor.
“The first time, I had two things to do — run the country and survive; I had all these crooked guys,” Trump said. “And the second time, I run the country and the world.”
Asked about Hegseth’s situation, Trump said, “He’s gonna get it together.”
Trump also commented on speculation about seeking a third term despite constitutional limits, suggesting, “Well, maybe I’m just trying to shatter.”
The article’s release comes just before Trump’s 100th day in office. While Trump has called his first 100 days the most successful in history, Time magazine described them as “among the most destabilizing in American history.”
