Donald Trump is privately blaming Elon Musk’s recent erratic behavior on drug use, according to a report from the New York Times. The allegation follows a public unraveling of their alliance, marked by vicious online insults and competing threats that exploded Thursday.
“Mr. Trump has been telling associates over the last 24 hours that Mr. Musk’s ‘crazy’ behavior is linked to his drugs,” the Times reports, as tensions between the two once-close collaborators reach a boiling point.
Musk, a major financial backer of Trump’s 2024 campaign and former DOGE team leader, turned on the president over the controversial “big, beautiful bill,” which Musk said increases government waste. Trump has accused Musk of lashing out only after EV subsidies were cut from the legislation.
The rift culminated in Musk calling for Trump’s impeachment and accusing him of links to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump, in turn, now questions Musk’s mental state, fueling speculation that their feud could reshape GOP alliances-or fracture them entirely.
