While Elon Musk ripped into the GOP’s “disgusting abomination” of a spending bill with a flurry of social media posts, Donald Trump has remained conspicuously silent on his one-time DOGE chief. Instead, the president aimed his fury at Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), blasting him on Truth Social for opposing the “Big, Beautiful Bill” (BBB).

“Rand votes NO on everything,” Trump wrote, calling the senator’s positions “crazy” and claiming falsely that “the people of Kentucky can’t stand him.”

In reality, Paul has consistently won reelection with increasing margins, securing over 61% of the vote in 2022. His criticism centered not on the tax cuts in the bill, which he supports, but on the bill’s $5 trillion increase in the debt ceiling.

“I want to vote for it,” Paul said, “but if I vote for the $5 trillion debt, who’s left in Washington that cares about the debt?”

Meanwhile, Trump has avoided responding to Musk’s high-profile criticisms, including 13 separate posts condemning the legislation’s fiscal impact. As the GOP grapples with internal fractures, Trump appears far more focused on punishing dissenters like Paul than engaging with Musk’s economic warnings.
