WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump escalated his criticism of Rep. Ilhan Omar on Sunday, telling reporters aboard Air Force One that the Minnesota Democrat should be “thrown the hell out of our country.” His remarks came as he referenced a new White House list of “19 countries of concern,” including Somalia, following the recent shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C.

Trump said immigrants who “aren’t trying to make the U.S. better” should return to their home countries and accused Omar of improperly entering the United States, repeating an unproven claim about her family history. Reporters also asked whether he stood by comments calling Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz “retarded,” which Trump affirmed, adding that Walz’s support for Somali migrants showed “something wrong with him.”

When pressed on whether naturalized citizens could lose their citizenship, Trump said he would consider reversing naturalizations he believes occurred “the wrong way, through Biden,” though he acknowledged uncertainty about the legal limits of such power.

Later Sunday evening, Trump posted on social media that “bad people” must be removed from the United States “fast,” linking the message to his assertions about immigration and the 2020 election.

Omar, a naturalized U.S. citizen who has frequently clashed with the president, has not yet responded to the latest remarks.
