President Donald Trump stated he is monitoring Elon Musk’s potential conflicts of interest while Musk serves as a special government employee at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). However, Trump admitted he was unsure if Musk met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a private citizen or in an official capacity.
Musk’s meeting with Modi in Washington, D.C., occurred before the Indian leader met with Trump. Given Musk’s involvement in space and technology through SpaceX and Tesla, the meeting itself was not unusual. However, his government role has raised concerns about overlap between his business interests and public service.
Trump, when asked about Musk’s status in the Modi meeting, responded, “I don’t know. They met, and I assume he wants to do business in India.” Musk has long pursued Tesla and Starlink expansions in India, though his trip last year was postponed, and Starlink remains inactive there.
Trump assured reporters that Musk’s government position would not lead to conflicts. “We won’t let him do anything having to do with a conflict,” he said.
