Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he will nominate Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma to serve as the next secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, replacing Kristi Noem.
Trump said Noem will move to a new role as special envoy for a Western Hemisphere security initiative the administration plans to unveil at a summit with Latin American leaders in Florida. In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump praised Noem’s tenure and cited her work on border security.
Mullin, a Republican senator from Oklahoma, has been a vocal supporter of the administration’s immigration enforcement policies and has frequently defended the White House’s border strategy in Congress.
The Department of Homeland Security oversees immigration enforcement, border security, and disaster response, making the leadership change significant as the administration continues its immigration crackdown.
