Former President Donald Trump told supporters in Green Bay, Wisconsin, that advisers had urged him to avoid calling himself a “protector” of women, a term he first used in September to appeal to female voters. “They said, ‘Sir, I just think it’s inappropriate for you to say,’” Trump shared. “I said, ‘Well, I’m going to do it whether the women like it or not. I’m going to protect them from migrants… and foreign countries that want to hit us with missiles.’”
Trump has used the “protector” term at past rallies, addressing women directly and framing his campaign in terms of security against perceived threats. The Harris campaign quickly criticized Trump’s phrasing, with aides suggesting his comments demonstrated a lack of consideration for women’s views. Harris, who leads among women voters in polling, has focused her campaign on reproductive rights, a key issue since the reversal of Roe v. Wade. Trump, by contrast, has shown stronger support among male voters, leading to a notable gender gap in the 2024 race.
