President Donald Trump has announced plans to construct an arch in Washington, D.C., inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The proposed structure is intended to be located west of the Lincoln Memorial and aims to serve as a symbol of American pride.

During a recent White House dinner for major donors supporting a $250 million expansion of the Executive Mansion’s ballroom, Trump described the planned arch as visually appealing. The exact cost of the project has not been disclosed, but Trump mentioned that surplus funds from the ballroom project could be utilized for its financing.

The design, created by Harrison Design, is called the “Lady Liberty Arch” and would feature a statue of Liberty at its apex, positioned at the Washington end of Memorial Bridge. Trump presented three model sizes during the dinner, expressing a preference for the largest version.

It is currently uncertain whether the White House has submitted the design to the National Capital Planning Commission, which is responsible for approving new monuments or memorials. The commission is currently not operational due to a government shutdown.

This initiative is part of Trump’s broader goal to enhance the visual appeal of Washington by replacing existing infrastructure and landscaping. Previous projects have included converting the White House Rose Garden into a stone patio and organizing military parades influenced by events in France.
