President-elect Trump announced plans to expedite federal approvals for projects investing $1 billion or more in the U.S. economy. In a Truth Social post, Trump stated these investments would receive accelerated permits, including environmental approvals, and declared, “GET READY TO ROCK!!!”

Federal environmental reviews required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) often cause delays for infrastructure projects. While Trump’s proposal seeks to streamline these processes, Georgetown law professor William Buzbee noted that agencies must still comply with NEPA’s mandates, which require careful review of significant environmental impacts to withstand judicial scrutiny.

The announcement coincided with Supreme Court arguments about limiting NEPA’s scope, although it is unclear if Trump’s remarks were related. Environmental advocates criticized the plan, with Sierra Club’s Mahyar Sorour saying, “Corporate polluters cannot bribe their way to endangering our communities.”
