During a campaign speech in New Jersey, former President Donald Trump made headlines by referring to the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter as a “wonderful man.” The bizarre comment came as Trump compared migrants crossing the border to the character from “The Silence of the Lambs,” repeating unsubstantiated claims that these migrants are violent criminals or released from “insane asylums.”
Trump referenced a scene from the film, praising Lecter for his cunning and dark humor. He then shifted focus back to the migrant crisis, claiming that unchecked and unvetted individuals are “destroying our country” and emphasizing the need to win the upcoming election to prevent doom.
This isn’t the first time Trump has drawn parallels between migrants and the infamous character, having previously referred to Lecter as “legendary” and a “nice fellow.” His comments have stirred controversy, particularly given the troubling nature of the comparisons.
