Donald Trump has ordered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to ramp up deportation operations in Democratic-led cities, citing a need to dismantle “crime ridden” urban areas he claims are plagued by illegal immigration. In a Truth Social post, Trump directed ICE to “do all in their power” to achieve the largest mass deportation effort in U.S. history, calling out Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
“These Radical Left Democrats…want to destroy our Inner Cities,” Trump stated. He alleged Democrats expand their voter base through undocumented immigrants and falsely accused them of election fraud. The directive aligns with earlier goals announced by adviser Stephen Miller: a minimum of 3,000 ICE arrests daily.
Last week, Trump deployed federal troops to Los Angeles to quell anti-ICE protests. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass condemned the action. A federal appeals court temporarily lifted a judge’s order that had blocked the National Guard’s involvement, allowing the immigration raids to continue.
Trump’s administration has prioritized deportation efforts throughout his presidency, intensifying partisan divides over immigration policy.
