President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has directed the Department of Justice (DOJ) to fire all remaining U.S. attorneys appointed under former President Joe Biden, arguing the department had been “politicized like never before.”
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, stating that the move was necessary to “clean house” and restore confidence in the justice system. The sweeping action affects 93 U.S. attorneys across the country.
The decision follows recent high-profile resignations, including Danielle Sassoon, acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, who stepped down after the DOJ dropped corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Additionally, Denise Cheung, a top prosecutor in Washington, D.C., resigned following orders to investigate Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funding from Biden’s presidency.
Trump’s administration has begun notifying affected U.S. attorneys, with leadership changes already underway in multiple districts, including California.
