WASHINGTON — Several senior Trump administration officials have moved into military housing across the Washington, D.C. area due to escalating safety concerns, The Atlantic reported this week.
Top aide Stephen Miller and his family recently relocated from their Arlington home to military quarters after neighborhood protests. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem now resides in the Coast Guard commandant’s residence at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have taken up homes on Fort McNair’s “Generals’ Row.” Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is sharing housing at Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall.
The wave of relocations has strained available housing traditionally reserved for senior officers. National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard reportedly explored moving to Fort McNair earlier this year but was unable to secure space.
While it’s not uncommon for high-level defense or security officials to reside on military bases, analysts say it is unprecedented for so many top civilian officials to do so at once. The trend highlights heightened polarization and fears of targeted political violence in the nation’s capital.
