President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Monica Crowley, a former Fox News contributor, for the position of “Ambassador, Assistant Secretary of State, and Chief of Protocol.” This role, which requires Senate confirmation, will oversee significant U.S. events, including the 2026 Independence Day celebrations, the FIFA World Cup, and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Crowley previously served as assistant secretary of the Treasury for public affairs during Trump’s first term. Her tenure followed her withdrawal from an earlier role amid plagiarism allegations involving her 2012 book and doctoral dissertation at Columbia University. Crowley dismissed the accusations as a “political hit job” but later revised her dissertation.
Trump praised Crowley’s past performance, describing her as a bestselling author and respected analyst. On Truth Social, he wrote, “She will be an extraordinary Representative of our Country. Congratulations Monica!”
