This message aligns with Trump’s earlier comments, advocating that abortion laws be decided by individual states and supporting exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother’s life is in danger.
This approach provides political cover for Republicans in Biden-won districts, allowing them to campaign on the issue according to their constituents’ views. “It’s very helpful,” a Biden-district Republican told The Hill of Trump’s message on abortion. Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) echoed this sentiment, calling Trump’s message “smart advice.”
