Former President Donald Trump has seen a decline in support across three polls following his guilty verdict in a Manhattan criminal trial. A New York jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, which Trump denies, claiming political motivation.
A YouGov poll conducted after the verdict found 50% of 3,040 U.S. adults believed Trump was guilty, 30% did not, and 19% were unsure (±2.3% margin of error). By party: 15% of Republicans, 48% of independents, and 86% of Democrats believed Trump was guilty.
A Morning Consult poll showed 54% of 2,220 registered voters approved of the jury’s verdict (±2% margin of error). Among party lines, 18% of Republicans, 52% of independents, and 88% of Democrats approved. Additionally, 51% said Trump should end his presidential campaign, while 43% disagreed.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll found 5% of Republicans and 21% of independents were less likely to vote for Trump post-verdict, while 30% of Republicans and 13% of independents were more likely to vote for him. Most respondents (55% of Republicans, 58% of independents, and 58% of Democrats) said the verdict did not change their voting intentions.
Despite these losses, Trump’s campaign reported a surge in donations and approval from a Daily Mail/J.L. Partners poll, which noted a 6% increase in his approval rating.
Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director, claimed record fundraising numbers and growing support, despite the negative poll results.
