WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump has launched a new immigration program allowing wealthy foreign nationals to obtain expedited U.S. residency — and eventually citizenship — by paying $1 million for what the administration calls the “Trump Gold Card.” According to reporting from The Guardian, the Department of Homeland Security has created an official enrollment system promising residency “in record time,” following a background check and a $15,000 processing fee.
The program, established by a September executive order, also allows U.S. companies to sponsor employees for a $2 million fee, plus a 1% annual maintenance fee and a 5% transfer fee when switching the visa between workers. Trump said the initiative will help American companies retain top global talent and generate “many billions of dollars” for national projects.
A higher-tier “Trump Platinum Card,” priced at $5 million, is set to launch soon. It would allow holders to spend up to 270 days per year in the U.S. without being subject to U.S. taxes on foreign income. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem praised the program, saying eligible individuals and corporations will receive expedited EB-1 or EB-2 green cards after rigorous vetting.
The announcement arrives as the administration aggressively expands deportation operations targeting undocumented immigrants, drawing criticism over the contrast between strict enforcement for low-income migrants and a fast-track pathway for the wealthy. Critics say the model resembles controversial “golden visa” programs abroad, though Trump argued it ensures applicants “pay, as opposed to walking over the borders.”
