President-elect Donald Trump hosted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at his Mar-a-Lago club Saturday, marking another meeting with a foreign leader since his Election Day victory. Trump praised Meloni, calling her “a fantastic woman” and highlighting her rising influence in Europe.

The pair attended a screening of a documentary about challenges faced by conservative lawyers, joined by key figures in Trump’s incoming administration, including Sen. Marco Rubio, Rep. Mike Waltz, and Treasury Secretary-designate Scott Bessent.

Meloni’s visit follows recent diplomatic tensions between Italy and Iran over journalist Cecilia Sala’s detention in Tehran and Iran’s demand for the release of an Iranian businessman arrested in Milan on a U.S. warrant.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden plans to travel to Rome Thursday to meet with Meloni and Pope Francis, emphasizing U.S.-Italy relations and her leadership of the G7.
