President Trump said Friday his administration will soon unveil a “very exciting” new pathway to U.S. citizenship, but offered no details, saying it was “too soon to speak of.” He made the comments while defending the decision to revoke Harvard University’s authority to enroll foreign students.
“We’re going to make it possible for people to come into this country and have a road toward citizenship,” Trump said from the Oval Office, where he signed nuclear energy orders. He emphasized a desire to attract top talent but warned, “We don’t want troublemakers here.”
The remarks follow backlash over DHS Secretary Kristi Noem revoking Harvard’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification. Harvard is suing, calling the move unconstitutional and punitive.
Earlier this year, Trump announced a $5 million “gold card” visa to replace the EB-5 program and began prioritizing white South African immigrants through the Afrikaner refugee program.
The new pathway plan is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
