President Donald Trump credited the National Guard Sunday for restoring order in Los Angeles following days of violent protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, despite city officials disputing their presence.

“Great job by the National Guard in Los Angeles after two days of violence, clashes and unrest,” Trump wrote on Truth Social after issuing a presidential memorandum Saturday deploying 2,000 troops.

But Mayor Karen Bass countered the claim. “Just to be clear, the National Guard has not been deployed in the City of Los Angeles,” she posted on X, thanking the LAPD and Gov. Gavin Newsom for handling the situation.

Trump also announced that protesters would no longer be permitted to wear masks, writing, “What do these people have to hide, and why???”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt accused Newsom of “doing nothing” to stop violence, while ICE reported a 413% increase in assaults on officers. Protesters reportedly threw rocks and committed arson, with law enforcement declaring unlawful assembly near downtown LA.

White House official Stephen Miller described the protests as “an insurrection against the laws and sovereignty of the United States.”
