Former President Donald Trump has begun preparing for his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, enlisting former Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard to assist in practice sessions at Mar-a-Lago. Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party after her 2020 presidential run and gained popularity among Trump’s supporters, was chosen partly due to her 2019 debate performance where she effectively criticized Harris.
Trump’s spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, confirmed Gabbard’s involvement, stating that Trump, known as a skilled debater, doesn’t require traditional prep but values input from advisers like Gabbard. Despite claiming he doesn’t need extensive preparation, Trump has dedicated more time to debate practice this year than in previous campaigns. His team refers to these sessions as “policy time,” focusing on potential debate topics with input from figures like Rep. Matt Gaetz and Sen. JD Vance.
