A former FBI agent charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot is now serving as an adviser to a top Donald Trump administration official overseeing the Justice Department’s “weaponization working group,” which is investigating alleged bias against conservatives.
Jared Lane Wise, who worked for the FBI from 2004 to 2017, was arrested in 2023 for cheering on rioters and shouting, “Kill ’em!” during the attack. Bodycam footage showed him berating police and entering the Capitol building. He was on trial when Trump returned to office in January and pardoned all Jan. 6 defendants, including Wise, whose case was dismissed before a verdict.
Wise now serves as counselor to DOJ pardon attorney Ed Martin Jr., who leads the “weaponization” group. Martin, a staunch “Stop the Steal” advocate, was briefly nominated as U.S. Attorney for D.C. but was blocked after backlash over his ties to Jan. 6.
Pam Bondi, now Attorney General, created the group to investigate claims that the Justice Department unfairly targeted conservatives under President Biden.
