Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump insisted Sunday that the Republican Party is “more united than ever,” even as public disputes with several GOP lawmakers have intensified in recent weeks. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said the party shows “great spirit and cohesion,” while singling out Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, and Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky as exceptions.
Tensions escalated Friday when Trump called Greene’s plan to resign from Congress early next year “great news for the country,” days after withdrawing his endorsement. Greene, who had broken with Trump on several issues, said she felt “hurtful” comments from the president contributed to her decision, adding she refused to be “a battered wife” within the party.
Massie has also clashed with Trump, most recently over handling of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Earlier this month, Trump endorsed Massie’s primary challenger, retired Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, calling Massie a “Weak and Pathetic RINO” who should be removed from office.
Trump’s post comes at a politically difficult moment, as Democrats have secured recent election gains and his approval rating stands at 41.5 percent according to Decision Desk HQ. He also faces scrutiny over resurfaced discussions of his past ties to Epstein.
Despite the friction, Trump said the GOP remains stronger than at any point since his 2015 campaign launch, pointing to border enforcement, tax cuts, and economic performance. “THE BEST IS YET TO COME!” he wrote.
