Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump said Wednesday that his administration’s anti-fraud task force has uncovered “billions and billions” in government fraud and suggested the effort could eventually help balance the federal budget while strengthening Social Security.
Speaking during the 12th Cabinet meeting of his second term, Trump praised Vice President JD Vance, who leads the interagency task force focused on identifying fraud and waste across federal agencies. Trump claimed the administration has already found significant irregularities involving Social Security payments, including alleged payments to people listed as being more than 115 years old.
“If this does really great, we’ll have a balanced budget without having to do anything,” Trump said during the meeting. He also reiterated his pledge to protect Social Security benefits, arguing that eliminating fraud would strengthen the program without requiring cuts.
Trump added that the administration was finding “fraudulent people on Social Security” and claimed the government was improving coordination between agencies to address the issue. However, the White House did not immediately release detailed evidence supporting the scale of the fraud claims discussed during the meeting.
Vance credited what he called “dedicated presidential leadership” for improving cooperation between agencies that traditionally struggled to coordinate investigations. He described the fraud task force as “valuable work” aimed at preventing abuse of federal programs.
