The fundraising platform used by former President Donald Trump’s campaign crashed within an hour after his conviction—a technical issue his team says demonstrates voters’ unwavering support for the Republican presidential front-runner despite his guilty verdict.
Donors attempting to contribute through Trump’s campaign site were redirected to WinRed, the payment processing platform used by Trump and other conservative campaigns. While the homepage functioned, attempts to donate temporarily resulted in error messages.
“So many Americans were moved to donate to President Trump’s campaign that the WinRed pages went down,” the Trump campaign said in a post on X. “We are working on getting the website back online as quickly as possible.”
Trump’s campaign adviser, Chris LaCivita, encouraged donors seeing the error message to join the former president’s text messaging list while the issue was being resolved. “If you are one of the millions of American Patriots wanting to donate to Donald Trump’s campaign and you get an error message from @WINRED …don’t give up! Log back on and try again! or Text TRUMP to 88022 Help us send weak @JoeBiden packing!!!” LaCivita tweeted.
WinRed’s Trump site appeared to be functioning again later in the evening Thursday. The webpage features Trump’s mugshot from his Georgia criminal case alongside the words “never surrender.” Trump calls himself a “political prisoner” and urges supporters’ “immediate pushback” to be “so massive it will go down in history!”
The presumptive Democratic nominee, President Joe Biden, also sought donations following Trump’s conviction, stating on X, “There’s only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: At the ballot box. Donate to our campaign today.”
