A man broke into and burglarized a Trump campaign office in suburban Washington, D.C., on Sunday, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Police released photos of the suspect, whose face is visible, as he walked around the Ashburn, Virginia, office and appeared to stuff items into a backpack. Authorities were alerted to the break-in around 9 p.m. Sunday.
Sheriff Mike Chapman noted the rarity of such incidents, stating, “We are determined to identify the suspect, investigate why it happened, and determine what may have been taken as well as what may have been left behind.”
The office also serves as the headquarters for the Virginia 10th District Republican Committee. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate and is seeking additional information about the suspect.
The break-in was reported on the same day the FBI announced it would investigate an alleged hack of the Trump campaign’s files, reportedly by Iranian government-backed hackers.
