Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), alleging that transferring Joe Biden’s $96 million campaign war chest to Kamala Harris violates federal law. Trump campaign lawyer David Warrington called the move “a brazen money grab” and claimed it would be the largest violation in the history of the Federal Election Campaign Act.

After Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris, she renamed his campaign committee to Harris for President and took control of its funds. Her campaign has since raised over $100 million more. While the legal question is unprecedented, many campaign finance experts believe the transfer is likely permissible. GOP lawyer Steve Roberts described the argument against it as “wishful thinking.”

The Harris campaign dismissed the complaint’s potential impact, with spokesman Charles Kretchmer Lutvak stating that Republicans’ legal claims won’t deter their efforts to mobilize voters and win the election.
