Washington, DC — President Donald Trump escalated his campaign to rename artificial intelligence Thursday, declaring that anyone who continues using the term “Artificial Intelligence” instead of his preferred “Super Intelligence” is “THE ENEMY!”
Trump’s statement follows a September executive order directing executive-branch agencies to replace “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” with “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official communications.
The terminology differs from its conventional use in technology. Artificial intelligence broadly describes computer systems capable of performing tasks associated with human intelligence, while “superintelligence” traditionally refers to a hypothetical system whose capabilities exceed humans across most cognitive tasks.
Trump’s executive order effectively applies “Super Intelligence” to technologies already covered by the government’s existing definition of AI, rather than limiting the term to hypothetical human-surpassing systems.
The administration itself has yet to fully comply with the rebranding. Axios reported Thursday that White House webpages still contained references to artificial intelligence. AI.gov was changed visually to display “SI.gov,” but its web address remained AI.gov, while attempting to visit SI.gov produced an error.
Trump’s executive order directs agencies to adopt the new terminology but establishes no punishment for Americans, companies or news organizations that continue using the universally recognized term AI.
