WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump has appointed Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, to the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors, filling the seat previously held by her late husband.
The board is composed of 16 members and provides oversight of the academy’s curriculum, morale, financial condition, and academic practices. It issues recommendations to the secretaries of Defense and the Air Force but does not directly control academy operations.
Charlie Kirk, co-founder of the conservative organization Turning Point USA, joined the board in March 2025 and attended one meeting before his death on Sept. 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. His appointment was part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to place political allies on advisory boards at U.S. military academies.
Erika Kirk now serves as CEO of Turning Point USA following her husband’s death. Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas), who chairs the Board of Visitors, said he recommended her appointment and looks forward to continuing the work begun by Charlie Kirk.
Other members of the board include several senators from both parties, such as Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), and John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.).
The Air Force Academy and the White House have not publicly disclosed the exact date of Erika Kirk’s appointment.
