President Trump and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are backing a long-stalled effort to ban members of Congress and their spouses from trading individual stocks, reviving bipartisan momentum amid renewed scrutiny over trades tied to Trump’s recent tariff announcements.

The support follows revelations that lawmakers—including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene—made significant trades around the timing of Trump’s economic policy rollouts. Greene says her financial adviser manages her investments, but her trades have added urgency to the debate.

Sen. Josh Hawley, who introduced the “PELOSI Act” to bar lawmakers from trading stocks, praised Trump’s endorsement, calling it “hugely helpful.” In the House, Reps. Seth Magaziner and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are working with Republicans Chip Roy and Brian Fitzpatrick to finalize legislation.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said he’s “open to the conversation,” while Roy insists a vote will happen this year. The proposed legislation would allow investment in mutual funds and blind trusts, but ban individual trades—a change backed by 90% of voters, according to recent polling.
