The Trump administration is attempting to reinstate National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) employees who were recently terminated as part of federal workforce reductions. However, officials are struggling to contact them due to lost access to federal email accounts.
An internal email obtained by NBC News stated, “The termination letters for some NNSA probationary employees are being rescinded, but we do not have a good way to get in touch with those personnel.” Employees were asked to help locate affected staff.
The firings were part of the administration’s broader effort to cut government jobs, led by the Department of Government Efficiency under Elon Musk. The rapid downsizing has caused operational issues, including the dismissal of essential personnel.
One reinstated nuclear safety specialist said she intends to keep looking for another job, citing concerns over job security. The Department of Energy has not commented on the situation.
