Two Department of Justice officials were fired last week in one-line emails “on behalf of” President Trump, according to multiple reports. Adam Schleifer in Los Angeles and Reagan Fondren in Memphis were dismissed without explanation amid what the White House described as a broader effort to replace over 50 U.S. attorneys and deputies.

Fondren, who was acting U.S. attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, was removed Thursday, according to the Daily Memphian. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) later announced Joe Murphy as her replacement, praising his “tough-on-crime” stance.

Schleifer, a former Democratic congressional candidate who previously criticized Trump, was reportedly fired while prosecuting Trump donor Andrew Wiederhorn. Wiederhorn faces federal charges involving an alleged scheme to conceal $47 million in shareholder loan distributions.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, “The American people deserve a judicial branch full of honest arbiters of the law,” though she did not clarify the firings’ connection to the judiciary.

The DOJ and White House have not responded to further requests for comment.
