WASHINGTON, DC — The Trump administration has dismissed all members of the National Science Board, a move that removes more than 20 officials from a key advisory body overseeing U.S. science policy.
According to Reuters, board members were notified Friday that their terminations were effective immediately, with no explanation provided. The board, established in 1950, plays a central role in guiding the National Science Foundation and advising both the president and Congress on science and engineering issues.
Former board members Yolanda Gil and Keivan Stassun confirmed the firings, noting that the group included academics, industry experts, and representatives from national laboratories. Members typically serve six-year terms.
Political analysts say the move aligns with broader efforts by the administration to reshape independent institutions by replacing existing leadership. A White House official indicated that the board’s congressional mandate may need updating but said the National Science Foundation’s work would continue without interruption.
