The Trump administration confirmed Thursday it is scrutinizing records of all 55 million U.S. visa holders through “continuous vetting” for violations that could result in deportations. The policy covers issues ranging from overstays to suspected terrorist activity.

A State Department spokesperson said visas can be revoked if indicators arise of ineligibility under the Immigration and Nationality Act, citing potential criminal activity, public safety threats, or support for terrorism. The spokesperson added that since January, the administration has revoked more than double the visas compared to the same period last year, including nearly four times as many student visas.

The announcement came the same day Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the administration was pausing new visa issuances for commercial truck drivers. Earlier in the week, officials revealed that about 6,000 student visas were revoked over overstays and alleged violations.

The measures reflect President Trump’s second-term priority of tightening immigration enforcement, which has included mass deportations and visa revocations for activities such as pro-Palestinian activism.
