The Trump administration will deploy FBI agents on night patrols in Washington, D.C., amid threats from President Trump to federalize the city. According to The Washington Post, about 120 agents will work overnight shifts to help curb carjackings and violent crime. An FBI spokesperson confirmed the agency’s involvement in the expanded federal law enforcement presence.

A White House official told NewsNation that roughly 450 federal officers will be stationed in high-traffic and crime-prone areas. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the move is part of Trump’s plan to make the capital “safe and beautiful again.”

The action follows the assault of Edward Coristine, a Department of Government Efficiency staffer nicknamed “Big Balls,” during an attempted carjacking last week. Trump called crime in D.C. “totally out of control” and threatened to take federal control of the city.

Reuters reports the U.S. military is preparing to activate hundreds of National Guard troops to assist, pending Trump’s final approval. Their role could include protecting federal agents or performing administrative tasks to free up law enforcement resources.
