Donald Trump claimed Tuesday that Chinese President Xi Jinping is conspiring against the United States as Xi appeared alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during a military parade in Beijing marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II.
“Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against the United States of America,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, without elaborating. He urged Xi to acknowledge U.S. sacrifices during World War II, adding that “many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory.”
During the parade, Xi praised China’s “huge national sacrifice” in defeating Japan and said the country “is never intimidated by any bullies.” Putin and Kim were among more than 20 leaders in attendance as China displayed troops, tanks, drones, and ballistic missiles in Tiananmen Square.
Trump’s comments came as his administration faced criticism for agreeing to admit up to 600,000 Chinese students under a trade deal. Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously said student visas linked to the Chinese Communist Party would be targeted for revocation.
