The Libertarian Party of Travis County, Texas, has passed a resolution urging the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump, accusing him of authoritarian conduct and violations of constitutional protections.
The resolution, passed Tuesday, cites Trump’s deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia—whose removal the Justice Department called an “administrative error”—as a central example of alleged abuse of power. The Libertarians argue Trump violated due process rights and misused the Alien Enemies Act to deport legal residents and foreign students based on political views. The resolution also rebukes Trump’s threat to send U.S. citizens to foreign prisons.
Ted Brown, who authored the resolution, said Trump’s immigration and trade policies, along with his attacks on civil liberties, prompted the move. “Trump is an authoritarian bully who has no interest in [constitutional protections],” Brown said.
This marks the first impeachment resolution from a local Libertarian chapter during Trump’s second term in office.
