A 37-year-old Tennessee man, Kyl Alton Hall, was charged with making threats against President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Barack Obama, according to the Department of Justice.
Hall was indicted on Tuesday on two counts of threatening a sitting president or vice president and one count of threatening a former president. Each charge could result in up to five years in prison.
The alleged threats, made on the social media platform X, included statements to “kill, assassinate, shoot, and crash the plane” of Biden, as well as threats against Harris and Obama.
The U.S. Secret Service investigated the case, and it will be prosecuted by the national security and civil rights unit in the local U.S. attorney’s office. A spokesperson for the Secret Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The charges were announced the same week Biden, Harris, and Obama appeared at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where Harris accepted her party’s presidential nomination.
