A George Soros-funded political group is teaming up with the Texas Democratic Party to launch an eight-figure campaign aiming to turn Texas blue in the 2026 elections. The Texas Majority PAC announced the “Blue Texas” initiative Monday, signaling an ambitious effort to elect Democrats across the state.
Kickoff rallies will begin this month in major counties including Harris, Dallas, Travis, and El Paso. The group will follow up with a statewide “Turn Texas Blue” tour in July, targeting more than 24 cities such as Amarillo, Midland, and Galveston.
The effort arrives as Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) faces a tough Republican primary challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton. Polls show Paxton leading Cornyn, but Democrats see potential vulnerabilities in a general election matchup against Paxton.
“We’re combining deep experience, local leadership, and significant statewide investment to meet this moment,” said Katherine Fischer of Texas Majority PAC. She cited Donald Trump’s return to the White House and Paxton’s controversies as opportunities to boost Democratic chances.
