The Senate moved closer to debating the Laken Riley Act, which mandates detention of undocumented immigrants accused of theft and burglary, after an 82-10 procedural vote Monday. The bill cleared an earlier hurdle with an 84-9 vote.

The bill passed the House with 48 Democrats joining all Republicans.
