Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) criticized President Trump’s Gaza peace agreement, arguing the harm caused by ongoing violence outweighs any diplomatic progress. Speaking on the “Modern Wisdom” podcast, Sanders said Trump has “continued the policies” of the Biden administration, which he claimed resulted in 160,000 wounded Palestinians and 65,000 deaths, “mostly women, children, and the elderly.”

“That is 10 percent of the population of Gaza,” Sanders said. “Up until a few days ago, people were literally starving to death because of Israeli blockades of humanitarian aid. No one in this country deserves a Nobel Peace Prize who has been part of that, and Trump has been part of it.”

The first phase of Trump’s Gaza deal, implemented earlier this month, included the release of both living and deceased hostages in exchange for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, with Israeli forces retreating to designated lines. Still, Sanders said the U.S. must “reexamine foreign policy” and ensure taxpayers are not “supporting such an atrocious regime as Netanyahu’s.”

Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have defended the plan, with Trump suggesting he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize. The full Sanders interview is set to air Thursday.
