OpenAI CEO Sam Altman voiced support for reducing bureaucratic hurdles, aligning with President-elect Trump’s views on infrastructure and innovation. In a Bloomberg interview, Altman criticized the difficulty of building critical infrastructure in the U.S., citing delays in power plants, data centers, and AI-related projects. “It is wild how difficult it has become to build things,” he said, emphasizing the need for U.S. leadership in AI.

Altman also highlighted challenges for his fusion power startup, Helion, which recently received a license to operate a fusion generator. He noted regulatory delays, stating, “Scaling up and getting regulatory approval will take years.” Similarly, Oklo, a nuclear power company he backs, faced Nuclear Regulatory Commission setbacks.

Altman expressed mixed views on the CHIPS Act, a Biden administration initiative for semiconductor production, calling it “better than nothing” but insufficient for broader innovation needs. He hopes for improved policy under Trump’s administration.
