The Biden campaign, accompanied by actor Robert De Niro, held a press conference outside the New York courtroom where Donald Trump’s hush money trial is taking place. The closing arguments of the trial began Tuesday, following a brief recess over Memorial Day weekend.

De Niro, a staunch critic of Trump, joined the Biden campaign to express his support for President Joe Biden and to caution against the potential dangers of Trump’s return to power. The actor’s presence aimed to shift the focus of the presidential race back to the events of January 6, 2021, and the subsequent threats to democracy.

Michael Tyler, the campaign’s communication director, emphasized the visit to New York City was due to the perceived threat Trump poses to the nation and democratic values. De Niro, echoing this sentiment, warned that a Trump presidency could erode fundamental freedoms.

In a recent Biden-Harris campaign ad, De Niro narrates, portraying Trump as an unstable dictator. He expressed his love for New York City and his concerns about Trump’s impact on the city, the country, and potentially the world.

As De Niro spoke, Trump supporters could be heard protesting in the background. The actor described Trump as a “clown,” prompting a swift response from Trump’s campaign. Karoline Leavitt, a Trump campaign staffer, labeled the Biden campaign’s actions as desperate and accused them of orchestrating a politically motivated trial with District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

The trial’s outcome hinges on the testimony of a key prosecution witness, with Trump’s defense team seeking an acquittal in this unprecedented criminal case against a former American president.
