WASHINGTON, D.C. — Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says President Donald Trump’s aircraft is routinely stocked with “boxes and boxes” of McDonald’s, highlighting an unusual contrast between Trump’s eating habits and Kennedy’s Make America Healthy Again campaign.
“When you get on his airplane, it’s just boxes and boxes of McDonald’s,” Kennedy said during an appearance on the “Net Positive” podcast. He added that Trump prefers national restaurant chains while traveling because he worries about food poisoning.
Kennedy defended Trump’s overall diet, saying the president eats fresher and often locally sourced food at the White House and Mar-a-Lago. He also said he does not try to “scold” Trump over his fast-food choices.
Trump’s preference for McDonald’s is longstanding. Former aides have described large fast-food orders dating back years, and reports have linked his preference for well-known chains partly to concerns about food safety and consistency.
The comments come as Kennedy promotes dietary changes across the federal government, including reducing highly processed foods and encouraging consumption of meat, fermented foods and other whole-food alternatives. He has previously described some of the food served on Trump’s campaign plane as “poison,” although he was later photographed eating McDonald’s with Trump and other allies.
The contrast has become a recurring feature of Kennedy’s tenure: the nation’s top health official is pushing major changes in Americans’ diets while serving a president whose fondness for fast food and Diet Coke remains well documented.
