Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) defended her previous assertion that Monday’s eclipse and Friday’s earthquake in the New York area were divine signs urging people to repent.

Despite backlash and a community note added to her original post on social media for context, Greene maintained that while eclipses are predictable, they are still created by God and can serve as signs for believers. She referenced a biblical passage, Luke 12:54-56, to support her stance.

Greene’s original post suggested that God was sending America strong signs, such as earthquakes and eclipses, to prompt repentance. A community note added later provided links to government resources and explained the predictability and frequency of such natural phenomena. Greene has previously apologized for her controversial remarks and endorsement of the QAnon conspiracy theory.
