Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) announced Saturday that he will introduce articles of impeachment against President Trump within 30 days, telling demonstrators at the “Hands Off!” rally in Washington that Trump “does not deserve” to hold office.
“This David is going to bring articles of impeachment against you,” Green said, invoking biblical imagery. He criticized Trump’s influence over the military, Justice Department, and Republican Party, declaring, “for every Goliath, there is a David.”
Green cited Trump’s previous comments suggesting U.S. control over Gaza as one reason for the impeachment push, saying, “Injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America.”
Green has launched prior impeachment efforts during Trump’s first term, though none advanced. In March, he was censured by the House for disrupting Trump’s State of the Union speech, becoming the 28th member ever censured.
Responding to Green’s remarks, White House Assistant Press Secretary Liz Huston defended the administration’s policies, stating Trump “will always protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid,” and accused Democrats of threatening those programs by extending benefits to undocumented immigrants.
