Demonstrators gathered outside Tesla stores across the U.S. on Saturday to protest CEO Elon Musk’s role in President Donald Trump’s push to slash federal spending through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

More than 50 protests took place in the U.S., England, Spain, and Portugal, as liberal groups seek to boycott Tesla and pressure investors to sell their shares.

“We can impose direct economic damage on Tesla,” said Nathan Phillips, a Boston protester. Others chanted slogans like “Stop Elon and his despicable Muskrats”, referring to DOGE’s mass layoffs and agency closures.

Musk’s dual role as a federal official and CEO of multiple companies has drawn criticism, with opponents alleging conflicts of interest as SpaceX continues government contracts while DOGE cuts federal jobs and budgets.

In New York City, police arrested nine protesters outside a Tesla dealership. Meanwhile, Tesla’s stock has dropped nearly 33% since Trump’s inauguration, though it remains higher than a year ago.

Tesla and the White House have not commented on the growing backlash.
