Indivisible, a progressive grassroots organization, is calling for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to step down after he helped pass a Republican-crafted government funding bill.
The group, formed during President Donald Trump’s first term, labeled the bill’s passage a “travesty”, accusing Schumer of “waving the white flag of surrender” instead of using his leverage to negotiate a better deal.
According to Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin, 82% of the group’s leaders in New York and 91% nationwide voted for Schumer to resign from Senate Democratic leadership. Levin stated, “We need new leadership in this moment”, urging Senate Democrats to demand Schumer’s resignation and begin transition plans immediately.
Schumer has also faced criticism from former Biden adviser Susan Rice, who publicly urged Democrats to reject the bill and told Schumer to “grow a spine. And quickly.”
