Nearly 45% of Ukrainians now trust U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as he prepares to take office, according to a poll by the New Europe Center. This marks a significant increase from last year when his approval in Ukraine stood at about 10%. The poll shows Trump’s support in Ukraine is much higher than in France (16%) or the UK (30%).
The survey, conducted between Nov. 15-27 among 1,000 respondents with a 3.1% margin of error, also revealed that 57% of Ukrainians believe their allies are not doing enough to secure victory against Russia. Meanwhile, 40% think their strategic partners are providing sufficient support.
On the international stage, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen led in approval among Ukrainians at 65%, followed by Polish President Andrzej Duda at 64.6%. Trust in most world leaders has declined since last year, except for French President Emmanuel Macron, whose approval rose to 58.4%.
In late November, Trump selected retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg as his special envoy for the Russia-Ukraine war, aligning with his campaign promise to end the conflict quickly.
A separate November Gallup poll indicated a decline in Ukrainians’ trust in the U.S. government and a drop in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s approval rating by over 15% compared to last year.
