WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 41 percent, according to a new Emerson College Polling survey released Friday, marking a four-point decline since October. The poll also shows that Democrats are significantly more motivated than Republicans heading into next year’s midterm elections.

Forty-nine percent of respondents said they disapproved of Trump’s job performance, up one point from last month. Among party lines, 71 percent of Democratic voters said they were motivated to vote, compared with 60 percent of Republicans and 42 percent of independents.

Overall, 57 percent of voters said they were more motivated than usual to participate in the midterms. The results follow several Democratic victories in off-year elections this week, including gubernatorial wins in New York and New Jersey and the passage of Proposition 50 in California, which sets up new congressional maps favorable to Democrats.

The poll also found that 43 percent of voters said their midterm vote would be an expression of opposition to Trump, while 29 percent said it would show support. Emerson surveyed 1,000 registered voters nationwide between Nov. 3 and 4, with a margin of error of plus or minus three points.
